How to Block and Allow Senders in Outlook

Blocking and allowing senders in Outlook means you can control who can send you emails. If you block a sender, their emails won’t appear in your inbox. If you allow a sender, their emails will always reach you, even if they might usually be marked as junk.

Managing your email can be simple and straightforward. By following these steps, you can easily block unwanted senders and ensure important ones get through in Outlook.

How to Block Emails in Microsoft Outlook

  1. Open Outlook: Start by opening your Outlook email account. You can do this on your computer or through the Outlook app on your phone.
  2. Find the Email: Locate an email from the sender you want to block. This can be any email from the person or company you no longer want to receive messages from.
  3. Right-Click on the Email: With your mouse, right-click on the email. A menu will appear with several options.
  4. Select ‘Block Sender’: In the menu, look for the option that says ‘Block Sender’. Click on it. This will add the sender to your blocked list, and you won’t receive any more emails from them.
  5. Confirm the Action: A pop-up might appear asking you to confirm that you want to block the sender. Click ‘Yes’ or ‘OK’ to confirm.

Note: you can also block full domains from this menu of options.

How to allow emails in my inbox in Outlook

Please note: if you have a third-party spam filter turned on and they are landing in your spam filter, allowing them in Outlook will not stop them from getting stopped by the spam filter.

  1. Open Outlook: Just like before, start by opening your Outlook email account.
  2. Go to Settings: Look for the settings icon, which usually looks like a gear. Click on it to open the settings menu.
  3. Find ‘Junk Email’ Settings: In the settings menu, find the section that deals with junk email or spam. This is where you can manage your blocked and allowed senders.
  4. Add to Safe Senders List: Look for an option that says ‘Safe Senders’ or something similar. Click on it, and you’ll see a list where you can add email addresses.
  5. Enter the Email Address: Type in the email address of the sender you want to allow. This could be a friend, family member, or important contact whose emails you don’t want to miss.
  6. Save Changes: After entering the email address, make sure to save your changes. This will ensure that emails from this sender go straight to your inbox and don’t get marked as junk.
